Why/how did you end up interning with MOHT?
My journey to interning with MOHT began as a deliberate move to transition from patient-facing roles to gaining behind-the-scenes experience in the healthcare sector. Seeking an office internship, it led me to discover MOHT, where the opportunities in the Future Primary Care department resonated with my interests.
What did you get to do and learn during your internship? What learning opportunities were there?
During my internship, I was assigned to two pivotal projects focusing on diabetes and hypertension. I was tasked to focus on the publicity efforts, wherein I focused on designing promotional materials like flyers, posters, patient user guides, and instructional videos on Canva. This experience not only refined my design skills but also instilled in me the ability to translate complex healthcare information into layman terms for better patient understanding. The practical application of design principles and the need to communicate effectively with diverse audiences broadened my perspective on the significance of visual communication in the healthcare sector. The experience not only enriched my skill set but also solidified my passion for contributing to public health initiatives through thoughtful and engaging design.
What was the experience like? (Environment, learning exp, etc.)
The initial weeks of my internship involved an extensive amount of reading to familiarize myself with the diverse projects. Despite some confusion at the start, understanding the materials allowed me to actively engage in discussions and meetings. The nurturing guidance from my supervisors, who generously clarified my doubts, played a crucial role in my internship journey. Being part of a supportive team made the entire internship enjoyable. The environment was characterized by open communication, where everyone valued and listened to each other's opinions and ideas.
What were your key takeaways/insights?
My internship provided me with a deeper understanding of how MOHT operates and contributes to the digitalization of healthcare. Collaborating with experienced professionals in the healthcare industry allowed me to observe and learn from their expertise. The importance of effective communication and teamwork became evident, significantly enhancing my skill set. Working on the diabetes and hypertension project challenged me to think critically and collaborate effectively with colleagues, leaving me with invaluable insights for my future career endeavors.
